Vaguely Royal returned to winning ways with a commanding performance in the Bootleg Beatles Live At Chester Apprentice Handicap (GBBPlus Race) at Chester on Saturday.

Ridden by Ryan Kavanagh, the six-year-old was slowly into stride before making smooth headway to take up the running with a circuit to go. Ryan judged the race to perfection, allowing Vaguely Royal to travel into contention before asking him to quicken approaching the home turn. The gelding responded generously, staying on strongly inside the final furlong to score in decisive fashion.

The victory was Vaguely Royal’s first since joining Ian Williams Racing and a deserved reward for the progress he has made in recent months. His confidence has grown enormously with each run, and this performance reflected the improvement he has shown at home and on the racecourse.

Congratulations to Eventmasters Racing on the success and to Ryan Kavanagh for an excellent, well-judged ride.
