Aalto regained his Bunbury Cup crown with a superb performance to land Saturday’s £100,000 Betway Bunbury Cup at Newmarket under William Buick.
Having finished a close second in the race 12 months ago, Aalto went one better to reclaim the prestigious seven-furlong heritage handicap he first won in 2024. Drawn in stall six, the six-year-old was settled towards the rear before William Buick produced him with a perfectly timed challenge. Showing his trademark turn of foot, Aalto swept through inside the final furlong to lead in the closing strides and score by half a length.
The victory provided Aalto with a second success in the historic contest and continued his excellent run of form, while stablemate Supido also ran with great credit to finish fourth under Ryan Moore.
