Vaguely Royal continued his fine run of form on Friday evening, securing back-to-back victories with a eye-catching performance in the Elevator Company Handicap at York.
Following up on his victory at Chester earlier this month, the six-year-old gelding by Galileo produced a brave late rally under a beautifully judged ride by jockey William Buick to capture his second victory of the season for owners Eventmasters Racing.
Settled in rear mid-division early on over the 2m trip, Vaguely Royal was asked for his effort as the tempo quickened passing the four-furlong pole. Buick showed standard poise, patient as the race unfolded, before delivering a powerful run inside the final two furlongs. Responding generously to pressure, Vaguely Royal surged through the final furlong to lead in the closing strides.
