Leath Acra Mor, under a determined ride from the under-rated Will Kennedy, won the Beginners’ Chase at Fontwell.

Small field chases are rarely straight-forward, especially around a tricky jumping test such as that provided by the picturesque Sussex circuit, with its figure-of-eight layout.

Leath Acra Mor had jumped well on his recent chasing bow at Ffos Las and ultimately, it was this key attribute that enabled him to open his account over the larger obstacles.

Repsonding bravely to every question posed by Will Kenndy, Leath Acra Mor took the lead three out and when Rendl Beach and AP McCoy loomed to pose a serious threat at the final fence, Leath jumped soundly as his closest rival hit the ground.

The dog-leg run-in up the Fontwell hill is a lonely place and Leath Acra Mor was starting to idle, but Will kept him to score by a length and three-quarters from Hi Note.
