After the narrow defeats of Almanack at Yarmouth and Teak at Worcester, it was left to Drumlang to do the business and provide the yard with a deserved winner.

Looking at the cards in the morning, and studying the odds, it looked like a winner was on the cards, but after two setbacks, confidence in Drumlang wobbled a little, but the 8yr old son of Soviet Star got a great ride from Robbie McCarth to win his third chase and sixth race overall.

Drumlang is a really solid jumper, and Robbie was able to keep his mount in the race without having to use too much energy courtesy of Drumlang’s good fencing. He was brought with a well timed challenge to lead at the last, and despite idling a bit in front and hanging left, he held on to win a shade comfortably.

The dreaded klaxon sounded after the finish, but the result was never seriously in doubt, but Robbie picked up a three day ban for his troubles.

All being well, Drumlang will be out again next month, as long as the ground stays on the quick side. He is likely to be reassessed with a mark of around 120, but he can be competitive off that sort of rating.
