As the training legend Arthur Stephenson once famously said, ‘little fish are sweet’ and with Donapollo winning a 0-100 at Leicester off a mark of 93, that quote is very apt.
It is my job to train and place the horses to their best advantage, so after a couple of near misses at Huntingdon, it was good to find a winning opportunity for Donapollo.
His owner Justin Steed, has been a good supporter of the yard and whilst his hurdles form wasn’t too much to write home about, this horse was always to make a chaser and he will continue to pay his way in staying chases.
Will Kennedy is the epitome of a professional jockey, frequently coming down to the yard to ride work and school my horses. His ride on Donapollo was a typically understated but excellent effort, getting his horse relaxed and jumping well before making his move at the right time.
