Almost Gold showed plenty of promise at Hereford earlier in the month, and duly backed that up with a first success at Doncaster under Tom O’Brien.
The drying conditions on Town Moor meant the race cut up somewhat, and when the second favourite slipped up after three flights, the contest was not a strong one.
Nevertheless, Almost Gold showed a decent turn of foot after the second last when Tom asked him to put the race to bed and he came home 19 lengths ahead of the field.
