Legends come in many different forms. Some are places, like Xanadu; some are heroes, like Robin Hood; some are online, like Zelda; and some appear at Glastonbury each June. But at Dominion Racing Stables, the moniker is given to those who match ability, longevity, adaptability and character… one such Legend is Sir Maximilian.
He joined our yard after his initial campaign in 2012 and immediately made his mark by winning at Newmarket off a rating of 84. By the time he finished racing in July 2021, Sir Maximilian had won 12 times from 78 starts, reached a career-high rating of 112, and his victories included Listed wins at Tipperary and The Curragh, multiple handicaps, plus the Group 3 Meydan Sprint in 2015 under Cieren Fallon.
Sir Max is now enjoying a very different life in retirement with our second travelling head lass, Megg Burton, but he certainly hasn’t slowed down.
His days are now filled with hunting, rides on the beach and trying his hand at dressage, showjumping and cross country. He has even been out doing hound exercises and, when he’s not keeping busy, can occasionally be found enjoying a trip to the local pub.
From Group 3 winner to beach rider, hunter, showjumper and pub-goer, Sir Max has certainly embraced retirement in true Legend style.
