Zealandia narrowly defeated Enemy in the opening 2m Handicap at Newcastle to give the yard a memorable start to the New Year!

Kieran O’Neill always had Zealandia well placed and took up the running with 3f to run. Enemy was ridden cold by Clifford Lee and cruised up the far rail to make a serious challenge a furlong out.

Enemy put his head in front with half a furlong to go, but was then outstayed by Zealandia in the final strides. The margin at the line was a neck, with over 5 lengths back to the favourite who ran 3rd.
