Midtech Star had gone 17 turf runs without even reaching the frame, and the handicapper rated him 22lbs better on all-weather tracks, but Midtech Star broke his duck on grass under Franny Norton at Bath.
Franny was happy to bide his time in the race today, but took closer order on the turn for home.
He made his move just before 2f out, and after taking the lead, rode Midtech Star with hands and heels to win by a comfortable neck.
