Matewan wins at Newcastle

After a run of four second place finishes, the consistent Matewan got his head back in front with success at Newcastle under Ben Curtis.

Ridden prominently, he was pushed to lead at around a furlong down and then had a protracted battle with the long time leader Stamford Raffles.

Responding to pressure, Matewan battled on well to prevail by a neck at the line.
