Golden Maverick for Midtech/Colin Mander backed up the promise of his last run at Southwell by winning over a mile at Wetherby under William Buick.
He trailed the field turning for home, and swung wide for the run to the line. He responded well to pressure from two down and stayed on well to beat Obama Amy by a length and a half.
William was happy with things after the race and suggested a step up to 10f will be no issue.
