Commissar posted his fifth career win and his first since March 2014 under a cool and professional ride from the leading amateur, Simon Walker, at Goodwood.

The combination of cheekpieces and the tongue-tie back on helped Simon and although he missed the beat at the start, he steered an inside track all the way around the long top bend and moved smoothly into contention coming to the final quarter-mile.

Having taken up the running at the distance, Commissar held on well to record just a second win on turf, from 20 runs.

Commissar is owned by Sotirios Hassiakos, one of the best known faces on the London casino scene. He is a big fan of racing and has been a loyal supporter of the yard for many years.
