Byron Flyer got off the mark over hurdles at the third attempt when benefiting from a strong and persistent ride from Will Kennedy at Newton Abbot.
He had shown promise on his runs at Sandown and Ludlow, and this time made no mistake, chasing down the long time leader to get on top after the last.
He had shown enough speed to win on the flat at Lingfield earlier in the year, so should prove a decent dual-purpose for his owners.
