Watch The King is another exciting three-year-old addition to the yard, secured at the recent Arqana Horses in Training Sale. A son of Persian King out of an Olympic Glory mare, he joins us from the stable of Fabrice Chappet, a trainer I know well, having worked and even shared a house with him during my time in France.

A maiden after four starts, Watch The King has shown plenty of ability without everything falling into place. His performances, including several highly respectable placed efforts over a mile, have earned him a French handicap value of 37, equivalent to a British mark of around 81. That rating gives him some very attractive opportunities as he begins his career in Britain.

He is a tall, imposing and athletic horse with an extravagant action and plenty of natural presence. He can be a little hot-headed, which is one of the reasons we decided to geld him shortly after he arrived. He has recovered well from the procedure, has resumed cantering, and is already showing plenty of promise on the gallops.

We feel our quieter environment at Ian Williams Racing will help him settle and fulfil the potential that his ability suggests. He has the scope to continue progressing on the Flat, while his size, movement and athleticism also make him an exciting dual-purpose prospect with every chance of developing into a very useful hurdler in time.

Watch The King is an impressive horse to watch in his work, and we are looking forward to seeing him develop over the coming months. We believe he has the talent to reward his future owners both on the Flat and over jumps.
